Bird Pin

Eastern Curlew

The Eastern Curlew, Numenius madagascariensis, is the largest of all the shorebirds, standing at approximately 63cm tall. Their impressive down-curved bill helps then gain access to crabs and other invertebrates, their main source of food in Australia. The Eastern Curlew is only found along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway; with c. 75% of birds wintering in Australia. We have a responsibility to protect coastal wetlands for not only the Eastern Curlew but all Australian shorebirds.
