Eastern Spinebill

The Eastern Spinebill Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris is a small honeyeater, easily recognised by its long, decurved bill and energetic flight. When feeding this bird can be seen to hover like a hummingbird, poking its long bill into flowers where it takes nectar and small insects to keep its energy levels up. While preferring woodlands and forests, Spinebills will visit urban backyards, particularly those with lots of flowering bushes and are the delight of many an urban gardener.
